A round table meeting for practice nurses: 7 July 2008, London.
Over the past few years, there have been numerous research studies, reports and recommendations on dietary fats and cardiovascular disease. Headlines in the media claim that cholesterol is a major killer one day, and then report ‘research’ the next day claiming that it is no problem. As healthcare professionals, we have been bombarded by apparently conflicting information and advice, not to mention our patients! So what is the truth about dietary fats and heart health? A group of practice nurses from around the UK met recently to take part in a round table discussion designed to explore the myths surrounding dietary fats and heart health – and to sort out the facts from the fiction. They agreed that giving patients advice about diet and health was an important part of their jobs, occurring on a daily basis.
